Antti Jokiranta believes in working together for the future of Mamec
Mamec’s mixing and pumping business is preparing for a controlled change in personnel. Antti Jokiranta, who will officially take over as Business Director at the turn of the year, considers the company a leader in its field – with plenty of potential for further development and growth.
Mamec’s longtime Business Director, Martti Heikkilä, is retiring as of 2026. The baton will be passed to experienced hands – Antti Jokiranta joined the company in May to familiarize himself with his upcoming duties and to carry out the transition in a controlled manner.
Jokiranta, who holds a master’s degree in energy engineering, has worked in sales and development roles related to mixers and pumps for over 30 years. He’s built experience in areas such as municipal wastewater treatment plants, industrial facilities, and mine water management, as well as measurement solutions and digital applications. Most recently Jokiranta worked as a business development manager at Xylem, a water technology company.
“I’m a naturally curious person, so developing and brainstorming new ideas with an open mind is a big part of who I am. The goal now is to further develop Mamec’s mixing and pumping business,” he states.
Jokiranta has been familiar with Mamec for over twenty years, but over that time the company has, naturally, developed in a number of ways.
“I was immediately interested in joining Mamec because the company is unique in its field in Finland. Today, sophisticated precision engineering equipment is designed and manufactured here to meet the stringent requirements of modern processes in industries such as the paper industry. These projects already operate at the atomic and molecular level and involve vacuum and nanotechnology, for example,” he explains.
“Mamec also has a lot of potential – and the capacity – to develop further as a specialist in the field, and to open up new paths too. Continuous development of production will enable new types of growth. That means we’ll be able to deliver on our promises to customers, which is essential for our business continuity.”
Mamec offers an open working environment for skilled professionals
Jokiranta has been pleased to be able to dive into the world of Mamec through a six-month learning and mentoring phase together with the support of Martti Heikkilä. His first impression has been very positive in other respects as well.
“It’s nice to come to a company where people are genuinely open and helpful. I’ve been warmly welcomed. I’ve even been a bit surprised at how pleasant the work community feels and how professional the people are here. Everyone has a strong desire to develop and improve.”
The workplace gains a leader in Jokiranta – a fast-mover, but certainly still a team player.
“I like when decisions are made quickly and things can move forward instead of getting bogged down. Mistakes happen, but we can learn from them and make new decisions. On the other hand, of course, it’s also necessary to have perseverance and be systematic. In this industry, it’s not worth it to chase quick wins. Results come from long-term work.”
Jokiranta also emphasizes the importance of working together and maintaining a positive atmosphere. People spend a large portion of their day at work, so it should be a place where they can enjoy themselves and share a laugh.
“In management, we have to remember that we’ve been given two ears and only one mouth. It’s important to listen to others and really hear what they have to say. In addition, work affects home life, and vice versa. I hope that, at Mamec, we can speak openly about all important matters, including things at home if necessary.”
Jokiranta, born in Elimäki, now lives in Rajamäki, in Nurmijärvi. The family’s two high school-aged children still live at home, but two have already flown the nest. At this stage of life, parents also have some free time – so how does this business director use it?
“In the past I’d have said basketball, but now it’s jogging because of osteoarthritis in my toe. My wife and I are also renovating an old log house in Tampere. We’re not making it our home – it’s a slow-moving weekend project.”
A positive approach to future opportunities
Jokiranta radiates a positive attitude and enthusiasm for both his new role and the future of Mamec as a whole.
“Let’s say that, in that respect, the glass is half full. Mamec has a strong grip on its activities – and a wealth of untapped potential. Of course, the global political situation creates uncertainty for the future, and we’re affected by factors like investments in the paper industry and municipal sector, as well as developments in the mining industry,” he reflects.
“But it’s essential to focus on things which we ourselves can influence. In other words, that means developing our own production and competitiveness, as well as identifying and taking advantage of new opportunities. We’ll have to work hard for our euros, but we’re ready to do it together.”
