Jarmo Koivisto enjoys finding new engineering solutions

Design Engineer Jarmo Koivisto has been developing Mamec’s mixing solutions for the past year and a half. He enjoys combining creative engineering with practical problem-solving in a collaborative team environment.

Originally from Pori, Koivisto joined Mamec as a Design Engineer in early 2025. However, his experience with mixers and pumps spans more than two decades.

Koivisto holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialisation in Machine Design. He began his career in the late 1990s as a Product Development Engineer at Ahlström’s pump factory in Kotka before moving to the company’s mixer factory in Salo. After that, he spent more than 20 years at the engineering consulting company Etteplan before joining Mamec to strengthen the company’s engineering team.

“I’ve really enjoyed working at Mamec. Looking back, I could easily have joined the company years earlier. The transition was made easy by my colleagues and the design team. One of the things I appreciate most is how approachable everyone is and how easy it is to exchange ideas,” Koivisto says.

“It’s also great to be closely connected with manufacturing again after spending a couple of decades away from it. Seeing how designs are actually built gives you a completely different perspective than working behind a computer all day.”

Engineering Evolves with Customers’ Changing Needs

One of the things Koivisto values most about his work is that no two projects are the same. Every customer application brings new technical challenges and opportunities to develop better solutions.

“Mixers may appear similar in principle, but every application has its own requirements. That means we often need to develop engineering solutions tailored to a specific component or assembly. That’s what keeps the work both interesting and rewarding.”

“With new major customers, we’re increasingly designing larger mixers that require us to scale our solutions to entirely new dimensions. Manufacturing facilities around the world continue to grow, creating demand for larger mixing equipment. In some cases, we’re also solving demanding material selection challenges.”

The positive working atmosphere at Mamec encourages people to share ideas openly and develop solutions together. Koivisto describes himself as a dependable colleague who enjoys teamwork and continuous learning.

“I think I’m easy to work with. I like sharing my own ideas, but I’m just as happy to listen to others because my solution isn’t always the best one. There’s always room to develop professionally. As our customers’ needs evolve, we’re constantly learning new things, and that’s something I find genuinely motivating. I’ve always enjoyed working hard, and here at Mamec I also have the opportunity to contribute to product development projects whenever customer work allows.”

Outside work, Koivisto spends many summer weekends at his seaside cottage, where there’s always something to keep him busy.

“Our cottage is by the sea, so I enjoy boating and fishing whenever I can. The cottage season often continues well into November. During the winter I enjoy cross-country skiing, and I go for walks throughout the year. I don’t really have any other regular hobbies. On most weekdays after work, there’s not much time for anything beyond dinner and relaxing in front of the TV,” he says with a smile.
